In 2019, Solange blessed fans with her fourth album, When I Get Home, along with an accompanying visual. To celebrate its two-year anniversary, the multitalented singer and visual artist has released a new, remastered director's cut of the film on the streaming service, Criterion Channel.
According to a press release, the director's cut will also be accompanied by digital activations which will take place on Solange's BlackPlanet website throughout the week, including special screenings of various performances and art installations that have taken place since When I Get Home’s release. It will also feature a digital quilt personally collaged by Solange with images and stories from fans about the album's impact on their life.
When I Get Home was the follow-up to Solange's 2016 release, A Seat At The Table. It featured singles such as "Things I Imagined" and "Dreams" and served as an ode to her Houston hometown with themes of Black solidarity and unity, with production from Metro Boomin, Pharrell and more.
Featuring images from her hometown, the dazzling When I Get Home film became an instant classic that visually captured Solange's introspective and cultural take on art, in efforts to speak to the "power of her ancestral roots."
The When I Get Home director's cut follows the merch line Solange released last year on the album's one-year-anniversary. The merch line is also available on her BlackPlanet website, featuring a limited-edition DVD, a tote bag and other goodies.
