The De La Salle University maintained its mastery over Ateneo de Manila University in dazzling UAAP Season 82 debut.
Shrugging off a second set meltdown, the Lady Spikers clipped the wings of the Lady Eagles in four sets, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15, Saturday to open their redemption bid with a strong statement at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Parading a rookie-laden core, La Salle was unfazed by the veteran presence of the defending champions en route to its seventh straight victory against its rival Ateneo dating back from the Season 79 Finals.

La Salle was aggressive on attacks from the get-go while keeping Ateneo’s main gunners Kat Tolentino and Faith Nisperos in check early. With their reception challenged as well, the Lady Eagles find themselves in an unsolved 10-18 deficit as the Lady Spikers showed no signs of stopping in the first set.
In the second, the ladies from Katipunan were more in sync enough to lead the set at 10-8. The Taft-based spikers made an 8-2 run behind Tin Tiamzon to steal the lead before the former responded with a 13-1 run of their own to equalize.
Trailing by three, DLSU got back its mojo and reactivated its net defense to turn the tables, surging to a 13-3 blitz to bag the third set.
It was another dominant run for the green-and-white in the fourth. With the momentum in their favor, the Lady Spikers gunned for a huge 20-7 advantage and denied the Lady Eagles late attempt for a comeback to finish the game in convincing fashion.
