While the film world is still reeling from the continued shutdown of production and cinemas, the big news was director Christopher Nolan’s insistence that his much-anticipated “Tenet” be released in theaters only, despite the reluctance of many audiences to venture back to traditional filmgoing.
Meanwhile, the summer’s other blockbuster, the family-friendly adventure “Mulan,” was released Sept. 4 on the Disney Plus cable channel. Viewers need a subscription and must pay an additional $30 to stream the movie via Disney Premier Access, but then they can watch it indefinitely, so it’s more like buying a DVD.
Is it worth it? Yes, for a family adventure with big screen bona fides that can be enjoyed from the safety and comfort of the couch. But watching director Niki Caro’s sweeping live action version of this classic story about a young Chinese woman warrior makes one long for the big theater screen. Still, given the uncertainty we’re living with right now, Disney’s decision to stream the film makes far more sense than the controversial route taken by “Tenet.” (Read More)
