As a youngster she would spend her Sunday’s watching her parents prepare for her church’s worship team.

That time spent with her parents gave the Fort Dodge senior the encouragement in creativity to become a performer herself.

“When I was little, my parents were highly involved in music,” Casciato said. “They would both serve on our church worship team, and I have early memories of coming before church and watching them practice.

“Their involvement in the arts inspired me to try it for myself.”

In her senior year, her parents remain a big influence on her growth and future endeavors.

“My parents are some of my biggest influences, as people and as musicians,” Casciato said. “They follow God the way I want to someday, and they have always treated me like an equal and encouraged my efforts. They have encouraged me to be an artist and not just a musician, and they have supported me in everything I’ve done.

“In terms of musical influences, I am influenced by Pentatonix, Christian artists like Cody Carnes and Kari Jobe, and lots of current Broadway performers.”

While growing up Casciato took every chance she could to be on the stage.

“I have loved music and performing my whole life, so I tried to take any chance I could to perform,” Casciato said. “As a kid, whether it was auditioning for solos in school music programs or volunteering for speaking parts in church Christmas programs, I wanted to be involved.

“The first chance I had to perform in a more consistent capacity was when I began violin lessons at 7 years old.”

In her time at Fort Dodge Senior High, she has spent every minute she could being involved.

Casciato performs in marching band, concert band, pep band, A Cappella choir, orchestra, performers club, speech and spring musical.

She also has taken part in solo and ensemble contests, all-state choir, National Honor Society, Brady O’Brien Live and assisting in a middle school choir class.

Casciato is also highly involved at her CrossWay Church youth group, coordinating and leading worship at youth group and helping lead worship at Sunday morning services.

“Being involved gives me lots of opportunities to grow and have meaningful experiences, Casciato said. “Specifically, going to Fort Dodge Senior High gives me so many chances to make new friends, have fun, and grow as a performer, and I don’t want to miss any of that.”

One of the biggest accomplishments for Casciato has been being a drum major for the Fort Dodge All-American Marching band.

“Being a drum major has probably been one of my favorite experiences in high school,” Casciato said. “It has been such a gift to get to lead the band as a drum major, and it has grown me hugely as a musician and a person. It has given me the opportunity to have responsibility and independence in my leadership and to learn how to collaborate in a large group.

“Besides that, I got to create deep friendships with the other drum majors. They are now some of my favorite people, and getting to spend so much time leading with them was an immense blessing.”

Being involved in so many activities calls for a strong strategy to be able to manage the workload.

“Learning to manage my schedule has been one of the hardest and most important lessons of my high school career,” Casciato said. “Often, I have committed to too much and ended up overwhelmed and depleted. My biggest trick has been learning where my limits are and having the courage to enforce boundaries.

“It’s also been important for me to learn to schedule my free time wisely and to create rhythms of work and rest. These are lessons I’m still learning.”

While she’s on stage the ability to use different emotions and show different sides of herself is what draws her back every time.

“I love how performing includes both mental and emotional involvement and engages multiple sides of myself,” Casciato said. “I can be challenged technically and continually strive for growth at the same time as exploring another world and communicating deep emotions. It’s a really unique experience.

“To me, the best thing about performing is having the chance to bring parts of myself and parts of other people to life in a new way. I love getting to communicate emotions and stories in a way that connects with the audience.”

For Casciato, performing in front of a crowd gives her the opportunity to share a little of herself and to be able to do things she isn’t used to.

“It can be really fun to explore emotions different from my own, but other times, I love getting to show others a deep part of myself,” Casciato said. “For example, I really connected with my character from ‘Footloose,’ Vi Moore. I think that she and I had similar values and motivations because of our Christian faith, so the musical gave me the chance to share the deepest part of myself with the audience.

“I felt like I understood myself better through playing her.”

While performing as a Dodger, one of her most memorable things has been the friendships that have blossomed.

“One of my favorite things about being in music and performing is the friends I have made,” Casciato said. “I have grown so close to all the people in my activities, and the laughs, long conversations, and memories make the whole experience worth it.”

After high school, Casciato plans on pursuing a degree in vocal performance, either in the categories of commercial music, musical theater or worship leading.
