Mayor Joe Hogsett on Thursday announced a pause in the reopening stages for Indianapolis.
The move mirrors a statewide pause in reopening that Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Wednesday and comes a day after the mayor launched a $1 million marketing campaign to attract Hoosiers to Indianapolis.
Like Indiana, Indianapolis will refrain from moving into Stage 5 and instead adopt a hybrid Stage 4.5 beginning July 9. In this new phase, several guidelines stay the same, including the following:
- Restaurants can provide indoor seating at 75% capacity.
- Bars can provide seating at 50% capacity.
- Cultural and entertainment venues remain open at 50% capacity.
- Gyms and fitness centers remain open at full capacity.
- Malls and retail stores remain open at full capacity.
- Campgrounds and youth summer day camps may remain open.
- Movie theaters, bowling alleys and other non-essential entertainment businesses remain at 50% capacity.
Indianapolis also will require people to wear masks in public.
The new stage also eases a few restrictions, provided proper social distancing and cleaning measures are followed. Larger events of over 1,000 people must submit a public health plan. The eased restrictions include the following:
- Personal services such as nail and hair salons may open without an appointment.
- Religious services may increase from 75% capacity to 100%.
- The Indianapolis Public Library may increase from 75% capacity to 100%.
- Conventions and conferences may resume with proper CDC guidelines.
- Sports venues and raceway events may open with 50% capacity.
- Fairs and festivals may resume while following the state's health orders.
Although the governor allowed overnight youth camps to open with a few requirements, they will remain closed in Marion County.
