Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Wednesday that the state will stay in Stage 4.5 for at least the next two weeks.
Stage 4.5 began on July 4, the date originally set for Stage 5. The new in-between stage was set to end July 17. At the time, officials cited upticks in cases, positivity rate and hospitalizations.
"We are going to stay at Stage 4.5 for at least the next two weeks as we look out and factor in everything that’s happening," Holcomb said during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
That means capacity levels and social gathering limits will remain the same. For gatherings and events larger than 250, organizers will be required to submit a written plan to their local health department for approval, outlining steps that will be taken to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. That rule goes into effect July 23.
Stage 4.5 allows restaurants to be open at 75% capacity, bars open at 50% capacity and some entertainment venues open at 50% capacity.
Indiana reported 700 additional cases on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 53,370.
Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said in addition to local numbers, spikes across the country have resulted in delays in test results here.
Box reminded people to wear masks in public and to stay home when sick. Those waiting for lab results, regardless of symptoms, should remain in quarantine.
This will be updated.
