People with property along the Guadalupe River should take proper precautions now
Guadalupe River at Riverside Park
VICTORIA, Texas – Parts of Riverside Park are closed today. City leaders plan to notify residents door-to-door as the Guadalupe River is expected to reach flood stage.
The Guadalupe River is expected to flood this weekend due to heavy rainfall upstream, and the Victoria Office of Emergency Management is encouraging residents to exercise caution.
The National Weather Service predicted the river will rise above flood stage Friday and then reach major flood stage on Saturday. The river is expected to crest at about 30 feet, the first time it has reached this level since Hurricane Harvey.
City leaders will go door-to-door after lunchtime today in low-lying areas to notify residents of potential flooding.
Residents, farmers and ranchers along the Guadalupe River should closely monitor the river levels and take any necessary precautions.
Roadway flooding is expected in areas near the Guadalupe River and Spring Creek. Residents should stay alert to flooding and should never attempt to drive on flooded roadways.
The City’s Public Works will systematically barricade roads as the river rises. The following roadways are being monitored for potential closures:
Water from Moody to Vine
River from Moody to Victoria
Murray from Moody to Victoria
Church from Moody to Victoria
Convent from Moody to Victoria
Juan Linn from Vine to Victoria
Constitution from Vine to the west
Greens Addition Area: Tristan, Valkyrie, Gunther and Wolfram
Spring Creek Road at the railroad bridge
South/Glass Street from Main to Water
The Riverside Park boat ramp, Fox’s Bend and Grover’s Bend will close by noon Friday. The majority of Riverside Park will close by 9 p.m. Friday, including Riverside Golf Course. The Children’s Park, the Riverside Soccer Complex, The Texas Zoo and The PumpHouse will remain accessible.
The park closure schedule is subject to change as the City’s Parks & Recreation staff continue to monitor the river level. Residents should not attempt to enter barricaded areas of the park.
