Traveling by teleport isn’t quite a reality yet, but if you’ve flown out of LaGuardia recently, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was.
A recently unveiled, spectacular new water installation in Terminal B uses 4,000 gallons of recirculated water to create a holographic light show almost dazzling enough to distract you from the fact that you just spent $14 on a tuna salad sandwich.
The water travels through two 25-foot-tall circular rings to create a flowing curtain which can be programmed to allow for different shapes and patterns. Lighting, projection and audio is then combined with the flowing water to create abstract shapes, texts and more. The overall effect, needless to say, is pretty impressive!
“This innovative feature is another way we are engaging with passengers here at the new Terminal B,” said Stewart Steeves CEO of LaGuardia Gateway Partners. “It reflects the vibrancy and uniqueness of New York City and offers passengers an unexpected and entertaining experience as they travel through the terminal.”
Using three different projectors, the installation can feature ongoing shows that celebrate New York as a whole as well as additional themed offerings for holidays, events etc.
If you are, in fact, still planning on traveling for the holidays, you can find the striking new water feature on Level Four of the Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall. The installation is just one of many new, very cool works of public art that can be found throughout the airport.
