OCEAN CITY, Md. – The annual Ocean City air show returned this year its normal time slot, and people filled the boardwalk the beach and the hotels to see the spectacular show pilots put on once again. “The fact that you can all gather together and and enjoy the show like this is you can’t beat that,” says Chris Dirato, Director of Public Relations for the OC Air Show
It’s been two years since the town of Ocean City has seen a normal air show. We’re told last year’s show just wasn’t the same, different dates, different regulations, and lower attendance numbers. However this year as pilots climbed back into the sky, organizers say the atmosphere felt different but in a good way. “You would never know that we’ve been in lockdown or no masks it’s wonderful,” says Trini Crawford, an audience member at the air show.
Meanwhile, spectators packed onto the sand and the street, most admiring the daring flips, tricks, and stunts from the show. “I think there’s the entertainment factor is there that people have been desiring that people have been desiring that for a long time,” says Dirato.
People who returned to admire the show with fewer COVID-19 restrictions say this year it seemed like the pilots put in extra work to really put on a dazzling performance. “It’s a great exhibition of some of the capabilities of some of our armed forces. It’s just a great thing to be here to see what these guys have done,” says Reagan Crawford, another audience member at the air show.
We’re also told some fan favorites of the weekend included Mike Wiskus, with his high-energy aerobatic routines, the air force heritage flights, the high speed F-22 Raptor Demo team, and of course the U.S. Air force thunderbirds. Fans say, the weekend couldn’t have gone any better. “It seems to be a lot more organized than what it was. Not that it wasn’t organized before it just seems like the group has got it together this year,” says Reagan.
Others tell 47 ABC that with this year’s show being such a success, they’re even more excited for what could be in store next summer. “Just seeing folks come together as one I know that sounds like an overused expression but it’s a true statement,” says Dirato. Both Reagan and Trini say, “The day was terrific, it was just a great day.”
Audience members also say the great weather added to the perfection of the weekend, and many are looking forward to other events returning this summer.
The Ocean City Air Show has concluded but will return next year during its normal time of the year.
