The National Aeronautics and space administration (NASA) recently shared a beautiful image of a dazzling spiral galaxy NGC 691 that’s located roughly 120-million light-years from Earth. The image has been shared by NASA Hubble’s official Instagram page and ever since its posting, it has gathered over a whopping 100,000 likes!

The caption for the image states, Hello, N”GC 691! 😍The dazzling galaxy featured in this #HubbleFriday image belongs to the NGC 691 galaxy group named after it. According to NASA, the image of the spiral galaxy NGC 691 has been imaged in fantastic detail by making use of Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3). Hubble observes celestial objects such as NGC 691 using a range of filters. Each filter used by Hubble allows certain wavelengths of light to reach Hubble’s WFC3.
It further explains that these filtered images are then coloured by specialists who decide which colour best corresponds to the wavelengths of light from the astronomical object that are transmitted by each filter. Coloured images are then combined from individual filters and creates a full-colour image. The process used by Hubble is highly detailed and gives us a good look into the nature and appearance of different celestial objects in our universe.
NASA Hubble is a space telescope that’s used by scientists to observe the most distant stars, galaxies and planets in our solar system. Hubble's launch is considered one of the most significant advances in astronomy since Galileo's telescope.
