William Shakespeare once wrote, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.” Everyone plays a different part in their lives, but how about playing a part in a play that includes members of the town?
In an effort to revive a community theatre group in Hawthorne, the Hawthorne Pride Alliance will launch the possibility of a new theatre group with their upcoming production of “My Big Gay Italian Wedding” to be performed as a dinner theatre. Those who have theatre experience or would like to be part of this production can contact the Alliance by emailing hawthornepridealliance@gmail.com. Auditions will be virtual during the first week of March. The Alliance is offering to be the springboard to this new project of developing a community theatre group.
Mike Stracco, the Chair of the Pride Alliance, as well as a former theatre director says, “Theatre is a reflection of our lives, it should challenge us, make us laugh, make us cry, make us cheer for the underdog, make us think. Our production of “My Big Gay Italian Wedding” does just that. Although our production is considered a fundraiser for a scholarship, it has a bigger purpose, a FUNraiser. We need some fun, particularly after the year we have had. I am hoping that together with the community, we can expand and begin to have a theatre group here in town.”
Mayor Goldberg says, “This is a tremendous opportunity to bring community theater to Hawthorne. It can be a great addition to our band shell, the High School Auditorium or in this case a dinner theater setting.”
We know all of Hawthorne is indeed a stage with many players, it’s time to take center stage. Your entrance awaits.
