Cinematic. Transformative. Legendary. All words have been used to describe The Weeknd's Super Bowl 55 halftime show performance.
The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) is gearing up for, what should be, a "transformative" performance this Sunday, with a 12-minute window to make an impact on the world. From what's been reported and hinted at, the show should go down in the annals of halftime-show history, with a never-before-seen stage design and setup that should

Super Bowl 55 halftime show performers
As of Feb. 4, 2021, the Weeknd is the only confirmed performer for the halftime show, but as is custom with Super Bowl halftime shows, the Weeknd is expected to be joined on stage by a special guest.
While the Weeknd is the headliner for the event, one of the following rumored names may make an appearance:
- Daft Punk
- Ariana Grande
- Kendrick Lamar
- Drake
Along with Daft Punk, the Weeknd's "Starboy" is a hit off of the titular album. Alongside Ariana Grande, the Weeknd has performed "Love Me Harder," a hit song that fans are clamoring to see performed live.
Kendrick Lamar and the Weeknd teamed up for "Pray For Me," a song off of Marvel's "Black Panther" soundtrack. The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Drake is rumored to potentially make an appearance to double-down on the Canadian presence in the show.
Super Bowl 55 halftime show stage
In a twist, a decent part of the halftime show will be taking place from the actual stands in Raymond James Stadium. While we've seen digitized crowds with graphics incorporated in halftime shows past, there's never been a halftime show to actually take place on a set from the stands.
The Weeknd said in a press conference on that the field and the stands will be used for the show, marking an interesting wrinkle in his halftime show performance. Given the storyline of the Weeknd's "character" since the release of "After Hours" in 2020, the show should is also expected to be "cinematic" in nature.
While there hasn't been an official stage design photo or artist rendering for the halftime show released yet, the Weeknd is fronting $7 million of his own money — in addition to the budget already allocated for the show — to make the show "what he envisioned.
Also of note, there will be no pre-recorded segments; the show will air completely live, unlike what we've seen at recent NFL halftime shows.
