- Stedman Gans will not be seen in Blitzboks colours again anytime soon as he's decided to focus solely on his Bulls career.
- The exciting midfielder says the Olympic campaign was a privilege as well as a disappointment.
- With the United Rugby Championship looming, his quick re-integration is vital as he's truly one of the Bulls' X-factor players.
Taking a leaf out of his former Blitzboks team-mate Rosko Specman's book, Stedman Gans has decided now exclusively focus on the fifteen-man format with the Bulls.
The dynamic midfielder, who made a major impression in last year's Super Rugby Unlocked tournament by ending its leading try-scorer, had his progress interrupted by injuries as well as his decision to have another crack at gold with the national sevens side in Tokyo.
Neither him nor the Bulls, to who is contracted, are frustrated with that turn of events as Jake White, the director of rugby at Loftus, gave Gans the freedom to pursue his Olympic dream.
"My immediate future plan is to focus solely on the Bulls now," he said.
"I'm definitely finished with sevens for now. It's actually the conversation we had beforehand and that's where we are now."
Unfortunately, the Blitzboks' Olympics imploded at the quarter-final stage after they produced arguably their worst performance for several years in falling short against an Argentinian side that coped with a red card for most of the match.
It was a deflating defeat, especially since it seemed as if the South Africans were handling the disruption of having head coach Neil Powell in quarantine well.
"It was still a massive privilege to take part in the Olympics. It was difficult at times as everyone were probably aware of," said Gans.
"We really gave it our all, but we couldn't reach our objectives."
Once back in Pretoria, White wasted little time incorporating one of his proverbial X-factor players back into the mix, even if it was initially in the less onerous position of wing.
Yet Gans - who's used to shifting between the two codes - insists there won't any hiccups in terms of him adapting before the Currie Cup climax and the looming United Rugby Championship.
"The two codes differ fundamentally, especially in terms of the preparation and conditioning," he said.
"It takes a game or two to get back into the groove, but I believe it gets easier every time. For now, I won't have to do that again anytime soon."
That confidence will no doubt please White and Cornal Hendricks, with whom he's struck a promisingly potent midfield combination.
