Gavin Weir is dazzling with the second no-hitter no-run in the Little League World Series | Sports - Pennsylvania News Today

Williamsport, PA — Gavin Weir threw more than 600 pitches throughout the South Dakota postseason. One of those 600 pitches became a hit.

California wasn’t the team to record the hit as Weir threw a second no-hitter no-run to push his team into the bracket championship on Saturday.

South Dakota beat California 1-0 on Wednesday. Other winners include Hawaii, which defeated Michigan 2-0, Texas, which defeated New Jersey 2-1 and Ohio, who survived the late push, defeating New Hampshire 4-3.

California’s defeat lost to Ohio, who defeated New Hampshire 4-3 early Thursday.

When South Dakota managers walked to the mound in the fifth inning, Torrance might have thought they were resting shortly after Weir hit the 65th pitch. It wasn’t.

Mike Gosset looked into the weir and said, “You won’t come out.”

Weir began recording his 11th strikeout in the game to finish the 5th inning. Nine people struck out and the weir was recorded 13 times in a row.

“Run and Gavin on the mound feel good,” Gosset said. “These kids are 12 years old. They understand the game. They understand the pressure. That’s what I like about this team. They play for us. I continue to play again. “

California was still in the game when South Dakota came to the plate at number five, but they seemed to have planned as Dominique Golia replaced the starter Gibson Turner.

It protected Turner and introduced more games. Golia came in and struck out Brayson Fox, who came in as a pinch hitter.

“We knew their pitcher Gavin Weir would turn off,” said California coach Javier Chavez. “He is a special, special pitcher. We tried our best to keep up with him.”

Golia struck out and two outs, keeping the lead in one.

“He came in and did exactly what we asked him to do,” Chavez said. “We went as planned.”

Prior to joining the game, Weir posted 100 strikeouts on just five walks throughout the post-season run to Williamsport, South Dakota. With 555 pitches through district, departmental, state, and regional tournaments, Weir gave up just one hit.
